Viral TikTok video shows girl drinking entire chalice of wine at her First Holy Communion

We all know what it is like when our child does something embarrassing in public – and there is literally nothing we can do but watch helplessly as it unfolds.

One mum in the US who understands that all too well has blamed nerves for the actions of her seven-year-old daughter, who drank an entire chalice of wine at her First Holy Communion ceremony.

Luckily for us, her mum recorded the hilarious moment and the video has since gone viralracking up millions of views on TikTok alone. (Watch the video above).

According to USA TodayStefanie Heidebrink’s daughter Brynley was making her communion on April 23 in the US state of South Dakota.

A video posted to her mum’s TikTok account this week shows the moment her angelic looking daughter, dressed in a three-quarter length white dress with long lace sleeves and with a halo of flowers and veil pinned to her head, walks towards the priest and takes the host in her hand before slipping it into her mouth.

The priest then hands her a golden chalice filled with wine and gestures for her to take a sip, which she does. But instead of handing it back to be wiped clean ready to be handed over to the next child, Brynley pauses for a second then proceeds to take another longer sip.

The priest eventually realizes what is happening, and raises his hand as if to try to stop her, but she keeps drinking. He then laughs nervously and gestures again but it is too late. As the congregation begins to laugh she finishes off the contents of the chalice before turning and walking off.

Her mum originally uploaded the video to her TikTok account on April 24 with the comment, “When your seven-year-old chugs the wine at her First Communion instead of taking a sip…” and the hashtags #likemotherlikedaughter #proudmom #wine #chug #winedrunk # 1stcommunion and #uhoh. It has since been viewed 11.8 million times and received 1.4 million likes and thousands of comments.

The video must have been taken down at some point because she posted it again a few days later, this time adding to the comment, “Don’t take this down again TikTok” and tagging a number of celebrities.

That post has so far been viewed 15.9 million times and attracted 3.2 million likes and more than 20,000 comments.

“Happy hour at the church,” wrote one, while another said, “The look of internal panic on the priest’s face is hilarious.”

Others felt she it was not an innocent mistake.

“The way she walked back is SENDING ME,” said one, while another wrote, “Her face walking back. She knows,” to which her mother replied, “She’s not even sorry.”

“She’s gonna be the life of the party,” said another commenter, while someone else said simply, “I love her.”

In a reply to one commenter who asked how her daughter felt afterwards, Heidebrink wrote, “Very flushed and talkative.”

Heidebrink told USA Today her daughter had been nervous before the big day and had asked how much wine she was meant to drink.

She told her she only had to let it touch her lips and not even take a sip if she didn’t want to.

She said when she asked her later why she kept drinking, she said she didn’t know.

Unsurprisingly, after a “nice spaghetti dinner” to celebrate the occasion, she said her daughter slept well that night.
