The verdict against Johnny Depp means that abused women will no longer be questioned

AS the so-called Depford wives stormed the courthouse in celebration of their idol’s “victory,” it was a fitting end to one of the most bizarre and horrific trials in show business.

The whole sad saga shed light on the absurdity of the trial on television – and TikTok.

And the truth is, despite what Johnny Depp‘s hardcore supporters will tell you that no one will win in this chaotic story.

We found out on Wednesday night Depp won more than $ 15 million – £ 12 million – in damages for his defamation lawsuit against his ex-wife Amber Heard.

The jury from Virginia determined he was slandered by a 2018 article she wrote for the Washington Post calling herself a “public figure representing domestic abuse”.

Heard described the verdict as a setback for women – and she is absolutely right.

It’s not insignificant that this is happening at a time when women’s rights are returning to the U.S., with the impending repeal of the Roe v. Wade abortion law.

It is no coincidence that this trial followed the #MeToo movement.

It’s hard not to view this as a social reaction against that movement, and women in general, given the zeal with which many wanted to see Heard destroyed.

Her torturous testimony was turned into a video meme on social media, mocking her memories of violence and sexual assault.

Surely other women who have suffered at the hands of powerful men will now think twice about speaking out.

The campaigns described the ruling as a “clogging order” to women.

The trial has become a spectacle due to day and night TV coverage and furious comments on social media.

Off the field, Hearda was regularly scouted by a bunch of angry Depp fans – more than a little distasteful, given the subject matter.

A story has developed online that Heard must be lying about the abuse she suffered during her marriage to Depp.

She is accused of falsifying photos of her injuries from Depp’s alleged beatings, on which she made up bruises.

And perhaps most unusually, that Heard must have deceived a number of witnesses who claimed that Depp abused her.

These conspiracy theories were not substantiated by evidence, but they soon became facts on the Internet.

This trial, which was broadcast on television, was extremely unusual, even for the states, considering that it included allegations of domestic violence.

He is a victim in the US, a perpetrator in the UK

It soon became clear that the constant and inevitable reporting on social media was almost all in favor of the ostentatious Pirates of the Caribbean star.

After seven weeks of mudslinging and torturous testimony, the jury also sided with Depp.

The jurors unanimously decided to rule in Depp’s favor regarding his three-count defamation allegations.

Heard received only one point of her counter-claim, in which she claimed that she was slandered by Depp’s press agent, who called her allegations “fraud about abuse”.

Less than two years earlier, Depp had lost a defamation lawsuit in the UK, and Judge Mr Justice Nicol found that 12 of the 14 alleged incidents of domestic violence had occurred.

We are now facing a surreal situation in which Depp is now considered a victim of abuse in the US, while in the UK he is considered a perpetrator.

One cannot escape the irony that the title of the article in which Depp sued Heard was: “I spoke out against sexual violence – and faced the wrath of our culture.”

In light of the verdict of this trial, it is even more shocking.

It must be exhausting to be a Kardashian.

This week, Khloe she wore this tight latex dress, three-inch white nails, and designer sunglasses — even though it was night — for dinner with Mom Chris.

The dress looked spectacular, but, boy, it must have been uncomfortable.

It all seems a little too much for a quiet meal with mom.

I am lucky enough to have done some memorable things in my life. I traveled the world and met a lot of inspiring people, from prime ministers to celebrities.

But the only time I was left truly speechless with excitement was when I had lunch at Buckingham Palace with The queen.

It wasn’t my first time at the palace, but I was extremely nervous.

I chose my clothes carefully — a medium-length skirt and a high-necked blouse, unobtrusive but elegant, like a queen — and I practiced bowing before I left.

When Prince William gave me the CBE, there were so many instructions on what steps to take, that I ended up doing a squat.

Raising the glass

I did not want to make the same mistake with Her Majesty.

But I shouldn’t have been nervous.

She immediately made me feel not only that she was genuinely interested in me, but that we already knew each other.

She knew everything about my work, about football, about my role in the House of Lords.

It was so easy to talk to her, as we sat down to eat, I almost forgot I had dinner with the Queen at Buckingham Palace. Almost.

The food was spectacular – even though it was in French for me, so I wasn’t 100 percent sure what would be served.

This year I was invited to participate in it Platinum Jubilee Choice as a “national treasure”.

Unfortunately, I didn’t succeed, because I’m filming Apprentice, but I’m going to raise my glass to celebrate the most amazing person I’ve ever met.

There is no one more magnificent than the queen in performing her duties for our country.

COMMON SENSE MEASURE NEEDED

A LOT has been made of the government’s efforts to re-establish imperial measures.

As with most things, people have found something they might be upset about when it will really have a minimal difference in our lives.

It certainly won’t affect my approach if I have to cook or bake.

This is because I stick to the universally accepted measuring system – insertion as much as it seems correct.

Traveling is such a boar

YOU HAVE ENDURED the passenger chaos, breaking through the creeping security lines at the airport to finally end up in paradise.

Stretching on a deck chair on the Costa Del Sol, life couldn’t be better.

Well, that’s up to a the wild boar is coming.

Observers were stunned when the animal rushed out of the sea on El Albir beach, north of Benidorm, on Friday.

The footage shows tourists screaming and hiding as a wild boar runs over their towels and along the beach.

A boar collided dramatically with a woman, biting a 67-year-old man. Maybe we would all be better off at home after all.

NO-GO JOE

Within a week of the Uwalde tragedy in the United States – where 19 children and two teachers were killed – an armed assailant opened fire on a hospital in Tulsa.

He killed four people with an AR-15 he had bought just three hours before the attack.

President Joe Biden says he wants to do something, but added: “This is not about confiscating someone’s weapon. It’s not about denigrating gun owners. “

All I can ask is: Why not, Joe?

The last time I watched EastEnders was Christmas 1986, when Dirty Den infamously handed over divorce papers to Angie’s wife.

But I watched the jubilee special on Thursday, which fortunately was a little less dramatic.

Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall were stars these episodes, and they showed what a great sport they are.

I liked that Camilla took the opportunity to tie the ribbon to all victims of domestic violence – a goal she is committed to.

I thought this was a great way to shed light on such an important topic.
