His daughter Leila and her husband Sam joined Richard and co-host Susanna Reid on Tuesday morning via video link.

During an archeological visit, Mr Finn collected fragments of broken pottery, but insisted he had no idea he was violating Iraqi laws when he was arrested at Baghdad International Airport in March.

Mr. Finn was sentenced to 15 years in prison under the country’s antiques law.

Leila appeared on the show to call on the government to help release him – but she remained too emotional to talk and immediately burst into tears.

Her partner Sam talked about the terrible ordeal with the leaders.

Richard said he “did not want to disturb” her – but described in detail some of the terrible conditions in Iraq.

He said: “We know that the conditions in Iraqi prisons are mostly terrible. And one of the statistics that will come out is terrible. “

Richard then picked up a two-liter bottle of water and explained the recommended daily intake according to the World Health Organization.

He then picked up a much smaller 250 milliliter bottle for comparison.

“That’s routinely everything a prisoner gets in that 24-hour period,” he said.

“Do you have more detailed information about the type of conditions in which he was held?”

“It is obvious that the composition of these prisons is very diverse.

“He will be in the same place as the various intimidating characters we understand, so we call on the government to support us in seeking to keep Jim somewhere safe while the complaint is pending.”

The spectators were horrified that Richard showed his upset daughter how much water her father would get.

One wrote, “It was a little cruel and reckless of Richard Madeley to show an already traumatized daughter how much water her father would get.”

Another posted: “Richard Madeley is just the absolute worst. #GMB”

A third said: “Richard Madeley scares s *** from the family with a bottle of water show and says #gmb”

“Wow, hats off to the empathy that Richard Madeley @ richardm56 showed to a guy’s family in a prison in Iraq by pointing out how little water is given to him daily,” a fourth said.

Another echoed, “Richard sometimes doesn’t think before he opens his mouth. @GMB”

The shocked viewer commented: “Richard Madeley is so insensitive! Poor girl, sobbing from the heart, and all he wants is glory from the ball !!!!! #GMB”

This is not the first time Richard has gotten into it.

Last week he left Good Morning Britain fans suffocating today when he asked the actress who plays Queen Elizabeth I a very awkward question in a new drama.

German star Alicia von Rittberg play iconic Queen of the Tudors during his younger years in the coming period of drama.

She never married and was so well known as the “Queen of Virgins” – although she was thought to have had relationships that might have been contrary to her perceived innocent status.

Richard66, asked Alicia, 28, a bizarre question about a historical figure.

He wanted to know Alicia’s opinion on the theory that the queen had many sexual partners and openly asked, “Was she a virgin?”
