Prince William joins an ‘utterly honored’ Dame Deborah James for ‘tea and champagne’ in her garden as she raises £ 5m

Deborah James has shared a series of snaps with Prince William after the Duke of Cambridge visited her at her family home.

Earlier today, it was revealed that Deborah – who is tragically dying of bowel cancer – has raised a staggering £ 5 million in a matter of days for Cancer Research, sparking people to campaign for her to be made a Dame.

Sharing photos with the Prince on Instagram, Deborah, 40, gushed over how “surreal” it was to meet the 39 year old Royal.

“Prince William actually came to our family house today !! I am utterly honored that he joined us for afternoon tea and champagne, where he not only spent a generous amount of time talking to my whole family but also honored me with my Damehood,” she began.

It’s quite surreal having a royal pop in at home, and yes you can imagine the cleaning antiques and preparation went off the scale – but it was all irrelevant because William was so kind and he put us all at ease.

“He is clearly passionate about improving oncology outcomes as the President of the Royal Marsden. It was such a special day for my whole family, making memories to last a lifetime. He’s welcome back any time!”

One photo showed Deborah sat in a garden chair as William knelt down next to her, while another snap was of the pair with Deborah’s husband Sebastian Bowen, and their two kids, Hugo, 14, and Eloise, 12.

Another photograph showed the mum-of-two proudly showing off her well deserved Damehood ribbon.

Prince William’s visit comes after Deborah revealed earlier this week that she’s now receiving hospice care from her home.

The heartbreaking post read: “The message I never wanted to write. We have tried everything, but my body simply isn’t playing ball.

“My active care has stopped and I am now moved to hospice at home care, with my incredible family all around me and the focus is on making sure I’m not in pain and spending time with them.”

Describing her current state of health, she said: “Nobody knows how long I’ve got left but I’m not able to walk, I’m sleeping most of the days, and most things I took for granted are pipe dreams.”

Deborah went on to ask for people to “buy me a drink to see me out of this world” by donating to the Bowel Babe Fundwhich has gone on to raise millions for charity.
