The Sussexes arrived together in the UK for the first time in more than two years to attend Celebrations of the Queen’s platinum jubilee and their goal is to keep quiet so as not to divert attention from the monarch.

But a lot of eyes were fixed on them first because of their arrival at the Trooping the Color on Thursday, and then on the Thanksgiving service at St. Paul’s Cathedral.

Their open criticism of the royal family exacerbated their rift with other members of Harry’s family and it turned out that after the Thanksgiving service they had no intention of staying to see William and Kate and quickly returned to Windsor.

The royal aide said that although they were happy to see Prince Charles, they had no desire to meet the Cambridges at the jubilee reception thereafter.

The Sussexes had delegated seats in the church which reflected their change of status.

Far across from the Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Harry and Megan sat in the second row, behind the Wessex family and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester.

Working members of the royal family filled the chairs in the front row, meaning there was no room there for Harry and Meghan in the top positions.

They no longer use their HRH styles and the event was their first public appearance alongside the Windsors since they stepped down from the position of senior members of the royal family two years ago in the midst of Storm Megxit.

They were personally accompanied by Lieutenant Colonel Sir Alexander Matheson of Matheson, the Queen’s senior gentleman Asher.

Given that little happened by chance in the great choreographic royal occasions, it seemed to be a recognition of Harry’s place as sixth in line and a former backup heir and the way things used to be.

“The institution has not disintegrated. The royal family needs them, but they are unlikely to admit what they have lost given the injury felt by all parties.”

A lot has changed since Harry married American actress Meghan at the glittering royal wedding in 2018, followed by their problematic departure in 2020.

A mass gathering of nearly 50 members of the royal family, including Harry and Meghan, was invited to a special celebratory reception at Guildhall thereafter.
