James Van Der Beek moved to Texas it enabled the actor to spend time with his family and connect with nature as a priority.
The 45-year-old actor told Fox News Digital about the quality time he spends with his six children and his wife Kimberly, whom he married in 2010, in a recent interview.
“We like it. We have a lot more space,” Van Der Beek explained. “We all need a more direct connection to nature. It was a really, really great move and the kids are really happy.”
Van Der Beek and his wife Kimberly decided to move to Texas from Los Angeles 2020. His explanation for the move was focused on the family’s desire to be closer to nature. The star of the “Rules of Attraction” series explained that life has been “very different” so far.
“The parks were amazing,” he told Fox News Digital. “We went to state parks and national parks. It’s just one of the benefits of getting out of a big city to get to a place where we could just have more space in front of our doors. It’s a very, very different life.”
“We watch the sunset. We know what phase the moon is at. We can actually see the stars, which is a new thing,” Van Der Beek further explained of the family’s decision to live in Texas.
“It was a really, really great move and the kids are really happy.”
The family of eight recently stayed at the Kalahari resort in Texas. Van Der Beek told Fox News Digital that the indoor water park “broke the code” when it comes to summer vacations with children.
Van Der Beek is thinking about returning to the Hollywood scene, and maybe even acting again. However, his family remains in the first place.
“Varsity Blues’ next projects should fit in with the family,” he told Fox News Digital.
“I’m trying to set things up now so I can spend the most time with my family,” Van Der Beek revealed. “I’ve been writing and evolving. I actually feel a call to work with some really brilliant people and act again. I’ll see. It would have to be something I really, really believed in.”
“I really enjoyed the career I wanted to build for some time before 2020, and now my priorities have changed,” he said. “It really should fit into my life. I love telling stories. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do and I think I’ll always keep doing it.”
“The fact that all teenagers are watching and connecting with him today is a really big compliment.”
Van Der Beek starring in “Dawson’s Creek” launched it into fame at the age of 20. The actor told Fox News Digital that he has “fond memories” of filming.
“It’s really strange to me that something we’ve invested so much time, heart, tears and energy in is being reconsidered many years later,” Van Der Beek told Fox News Digital. “If you had told me that would be the case, I don’t think I would have believed you then.”
The actor admitted that he is “always surprised” when he hears that people are still connecting with the drama TV series, which was originally broadcast in 1998.
“Whenever anyone tells me they’re watching it now, or associating with it, especially younger kids, teenagers who tell me they’re watching it – it just blows me away because the technology we had back then was so different,” Van Der said. Beek for Fox News Digital.
“So the fact that any teenager today is watching it and associating with it is a really big compliment. I’m always surprised and it’s always nice to see it.”
