Global fashion retailer GUESS uses Matterport Digital Twins

SUNNYVALE, CA, June 22, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – Matterport, Inc. (Nasdaq: MTTR), a leading spatial data company driving the digital transformation of the built world, announced that GUESS ?, Inc. (NYSE: GES) (“GUESS”), a global fashion brand and retailer, has adopted Matterport Digital Twins to ensure brand consistency across all its stores and create impressive, virtual experiences for its employees, external customers and wholesale partners. Since 2017, GUESS has been using Matterport digital twins, or photorealistic digital replica stores, to achieve a 200 percent increase in productivity, a 30 percent reduction in travel costs, and a 95 percent reduction in departmental paper and ink costs. In addition, by equipping employees with an iPad® and a Bigtincan sales solution, GUESS has trained and collaborated remotely with staff, engaged partners and wholesale customers, replacing personal visits to shops and showrooms with virtual experiences.

“Ordinary retailers still face a lot of uncertainty, but digital twins have allowed us to simplify our business around the world and build exciting, virtual experiences that set us up for long-term success,” said Jacklyn De Antunano, Project Manager, Training and Development. in GUESS. “Whether we’re installing new employees or updating storefronts in our stores, brand consistency is key. With Matterport digital twins, merchandising teams at our Los Angeles headquarters can set clear guidelines for our stores around the world, while new employees can more easily get to know our brand. In addition, creating the digital twins of our showrooms helps us provide customers with a seamless, virtual experience. ”

At GUESS, visual merchandising teams often review their practical experience. To ensure the global consistency of the brand in all stores, GUESS configures new layouts and displays in the fake store at its headquarters (HQ). GUESS captures the digital twin of its sample space with a Matterport camera and then shares it with store managers around the world to replicate them in person. To provide detailed instructions to store teams, each digital twin features Mattertags – color-coded visual tags anchored to a specific product and embedded with audio, video or detailed notes from GUESS HQ. Equipped with an iPad, GUESS store teams can see their Matterport digital twins directly through Bigtincan, the company’s sales platform and central hub for proprietary content and knowledge.

With quick and convenient access to digital twins, retail associates can update sales of goods on the go and include new employees with rich, 3D visuals that demonstrate brand guidelines and store prospects. Using digital twins in this process, GUESS saw a 200 percent increase in productivity over the same time period as a typical trading directive. In addition, the use of digital twins has allowed them to reduce team travel by 30 percent through long-distance collaboration and eliminate the typically manual process of printing and shipping directly to stores, resulting in 95 percent reduction in paper and ink costs in departments.

In order to establish a relationship with customers and wholesale partners, GUESS relies on exhibition spaces to place new products and collections. GUESS used Matterport digital twins instead of personal visits to the showroom to create an impressive, virtual experience for customers. With digital twins, GUESS can remotely share new collections and transmit detailed product information, allowing customers to see clothing from any angle, zoom in for a closer look and make direct purchases. Since adopting the digital twins, GUESS has doubled the number of showroom appointments and significantly reduced the air travel previously required for its staff and wholesale customers.

“The retail landscape has changed, and Matterport digital twins are helping traditional, ordinary retailers innovate their virtual connectivity solutions with internal and external stakeholders,” said Stephanie Lin, senior director, Matterport’s Global Retail Strategy. “GUESS demonstrates multiple cases of digital twin use in the retail industry. From creating a consistent brand experience at the store level to launching new, remote customer experiences, GUESS has used Matterport to unlock a true omnichannel experience. ”
