He said that he “took care” of George while they lived together during the open relationship from 1996 to 2009. They broke up in part because of substance abuse and alcoholism – something they both suffered from.

In one rare interview, Kenny explained, ‘We all expected him to die. I spent so much time living together, taking care of him.

‘Honestly, he hated the fact that I cared so much for him. What sentence does he say in one of his poems? He says, “I see it in your eyes when you look at me like that, it tears me in half.” And it really is. I just didn’t know what to do. ‘

‘I was constantly worried about him. Please don’t say that wrong, if you love someone you care about them ‘, he added.

The businessman continued that George was responsible for saving his life, and Kenny said that he “really tried” to do that.

‘What I always notice is that it was a much longer time when I was incredibly happy with him than I was worried about him,’ he added.

‘He always said I saved his life. I think it’s a little too much, but I really tried. ‘

Looking back on his relationship with George, Kenny described him as “one of the most honest people I’ve ever met” and said that everyone always gets the truth from the singer.

Kenny also said he didn’t think George ever thought he ‘looked good’, but he knew he was a ‘talented man and a good songwriter’.

He continued: ‘I don’t think he ever thought he had a nice moment in his life. I always tried to remind him or tell him, you know, “You look really good today. You’re a handsome man.”

“It was really hard for him … People would think he’d have a much higher sense of, ‘Hey, I’m a handsome guy.’

‘But what he knew was that he was a talented man and a good songwriter. I mean, he was a good man. ‘

‘He was one of the most wonderful people in the world,’ he added.

Speaking about their open relationship, Kenny admitted that George was ‘probably more open’ than the two of them because he literally talked about his love for the composer.

Kenny revealed that George chose him as a partner in an attempt to ‘please his mother’ and said he has many similarities with Lesley.

‘He had the attitude that his mother and I were very similar. And in many ways we are, ‘he said.

‘I’d say, I’m a lot more of a guy who plays by the rules, and she was the same way. I also do not condemn at all. ‘

Commenting on their relationship and George’s fight with drugs, Kenny said he did not like to be labeled as ‘long-term’, adding: ‘I really tried to always be with him and he knew it.’

Kenny was the muse for George’s songwriting and during the 2014 tour George told his he wrote the song Where I Hope You Are to fans, which he admitted was inspired by their breakup.

Reflecting on George’s poems about him, Kenny said he started reading the lyrics because he couldn’t remember the words for all of them.

He explained: ‘I can honestly tell you that I can’t remember the words of the songs he wrote about me. It’s a shame.

“Ever since he passed away, I’ve actually started reading verse. In fact, I started doing it before he passed away. ‘

Kenny rarely talked about George’s death, but in 2017 he opened the Dallas Morning News about the couple’s relationship, which ended in 2009 and was published in 2011.

He said: ‘We just had a good, sweet relationship. We weren’t even mad at each other or anything like that. He really was the love of my life. And I think I was the love of his life. ‘

After the singer’s death on Christmas 2016, Kenny issued a touching statement mourning his ex-lover.

“My heart is broken by the news that my dear friend and longtime love George Michael has passed away,” he wrote. He was a major part of my life and I loved him very, very much. He was an extremely kind and generous man.

“The beautiful memory and music he brought into the world will always be an important part of my life and those who also loved and admired him.”

Last year, Kenny negotiated a financial settlement with Michael’s trustees after a lengthy court battle.

Texan Kenny demanded cash from the estate of the late singer worth £ 97 million, while the family of the pop superstar swore: ‘He won’t get a penny’.

Kenny wanted payouts of £ 15,000 a month, claiming that Michael had supported him financially, even though they had divorced years earlier.

He also questioned the former Wham! the state of mind of the singer when he signed the will in 2013.

The settlement he negotiated with trustees, Christopher Organ and Michael’s sister, Panayiot Panayiotou, known as Yioda, 62, is confidential.
