Elvis film: Actors and their real-life characters Priscilla Presley, Lisa-Marie and Colonel Tom Parker

The highly anticipated Luhrmann film about Elvis is set to ignite Australian box office after its premiere on Thursday.

And while we wait to see if moviegoers believe that extravagance on the big screen justifies hype, one thing is for sure – the actors look and sound EXACTLY like their real-life characters!

Social media users have gone wild over an American who is shaking his hips and remarkably reminiscent of the king of rock’n’roll.

The biography of this 30-year-old includes appearances on the TV show Hannah Montana and, more recently, as Tax Watson in “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”.

Luhrmann recounted how Butler looked “born to play” Elvis and not only did he look just like him, but there are gruesome parallels between his life and the King’s.

“You know, we can talk about it now, he seems to lose his mom at the same age as Elvis. He sends me a video with this thing and. . . It happened like two years without stopping living and breathing like Elvis, ”Luhrmann said.

“He’s going through something like deprogramming now because it’s been a long time since he didn’t know who he was.”

Butler himself sang some of the earlier songs, and his voice merged with Elvis’s during some on-screen appearances.

From Peppermint Grove to the big screen, the 24-year-old brings a touch of Western Australia to the film.

Olivia DeJonge plays Elvis’ ex – wife, who divorced him four years before his death in 1977.

To help with her transformation into the ultimate 1970s WAG, DeJonge revealed that she even had to shave her bush eyebrows to create the thin eyebrows popular at the time.

And it seems to have paid off, and Priscilla herself praised her performance.

“I lived through every moment in this film. It took me a few days to overcome the emotions as it was with Lisa. “Wonderfully done by Baz, Tom, Austin and Olivia,” she said.

Speaking to Ben O’Shea at Reel Talk, DeJonge said she ended up sitting next to Priscilla at a screening in Cannes last month.

“It was really scary, knowing that I would meet her, and I’m sure she felt the same way,” DeJonge admits.

Tom Hanks rarely appears as a villain, playing Elvis ’infamous manager, Colonel Tom Parker.

The tyrannical Dutch manager, whose real name was Andreas van Kuijk, took Elvis to fame, but, as viewers find out, it has a great price for the star and his family.

Hanks told The West Australian he hadn’t even seen a photo of Colonel Parker before Luhrmann approached him for the role.

“When I saw his photo, I said,‘ are you sure you want me in this thing ’because if you’re going to do for Colonel Tom Parker what you’re going to do for Elvis, and that is, go back and make this incarnation of him, that is an essential modification of what you have in me, ”he said.

And his portrait clearly impressed his director, who said that the “great actor” was the only choice for the “great, great character”.

Lisa-Marie Presley

Elvis ’only child Lisa-Marie is only a child when the film’s plot is set, but she melts hearts with her wonderful bond with her father.

Lisa-Marie, who also created a career as a singer, is now 54 years old and has four children – Danielle Riley and Benjamin Keugh, from the first marriage and daughters of twins Harper and Finley to a fourth husband.

Unfortunately, Lisa-Marie’s life was also shaken by the tragedy when her son Benjamin passed away in 2020.

Lisa-Marie told 20/20 Chris Conolly that she “emotionally” relived her childhood through the film.

“It just leads to such generational trauma – in a good way,” she said.

“And Riley, after 5 minutes, was already like, ‘I’m done.’ She was already crying and I was crying, “she added.
