Mark your calendars from February 23 to 27 and get ready for an elegant series of events, because it’s time for Delray Beach Fashion Week!! Celebrating its 10th anniversary, this award-winning event by the Downtown Development Authority (DDA) and retailers at the center has always been among the highlights of the season for many. Laura Simon, executive director of the DDA, attributes the popularity of these events to their fun engagement with local retailers and shoppers who love our seaside village. This creates a very authentic Delray experience. Fashion shown at fashion shows and events can be found in retail outlets in the city center, so what you see on the runway you can go straight to the store and pick up! ”
Downtown Delray Beach is based on local creatives and traders. The talent we have in our backyard is huge, not to mention all the wonderful locally owned boutiques. Delray Beach Fashion Week highlights these local designers, artists and entrepreneurs. She has been participating for six years, Maryse Boisvert, a boutique owner Blings & Thingssays “It’s the perfect opportunity to show our collections to an audience that comes from all over South Florida.”
The five-day event across Downtown Delray Beach will begin with a fashion show not to be missed on Wednesday, February 23rd. Bryant Park at New York Fashion Week has a great counterpart to Old School Square Park that serves as a new setting for a staged show on the runway with more than 30 retailers. As in previous years, excitement and fun will surely fill the air with more than 70 models flaunting a catwalk with flair and confidence. As Simon says, “The opening night will have a fun tropical atmosphere, giving a big splash in the heart of Downtown Delray.”
Another highlight worth seeing is the fashion show and lunch “Colors of the Tropics” at the brand new Meso Beach House restaurant on Thursday, February 24th. And if you can’t get enough of a good fashion show, Saturday’s runway will feature fitness and swimwear, two basic things found in the wardrobes of most Florida residents.
I encourage you to dare to attend these special events. Let’s support local businesses and talent because that’s a big part of what makes Downtown Delray Beach fabric truly unique and wonderful.
