It didn’t take long for this year’s ladies The island of love to leave their panties on. No, no, not for to (minds out!). Instead, they were tempted to go as commandos for a far more appealing prospect than any current series of animated Ken puppets: the skorkio dress.
Eeeny-weeny clothing combinations of other skins are nothing new in the villa. But this year’s ones are filled with strategic cutouts, which require brave people to give up bras (definitely), panties (probably) or both (very, very likely). Hey, sometimes a high hem or bodycon silhouette isn’t enough; sometimes you want to flirt with Ofcom limits.
The brand that is being worn around the fire this season is Poster Girl. Look at Amber Beckford in a lilac dress and Indiyah Polack in a miniature baby blue number, both with those necklines that defy gravity. (Let’s say diplomatically, perhaps too generously, that a few other dresses the islanders packed look remarkably like the girl on the poster inspired).
Founded by high school graduates Central St. Martina Francesca Capper and Natasha Somerville, dresses and T-shirts Poster Girl T-shirts in one size have already been worn by Dua Lipa and Kylie Jenner. Instagram is a good and really conquered ground for the brand.
What sets it apart from the typical The island of love brands of past seasons is his legitimate fashion accreditation. The founders studied in Central St. Martin’s, is supplied by luxury retailers such as Browns and SSENSE, and this February had its debut on the catwalk at London Fashion Week (the one the fashion press actually went to. You can’t say that for the Molly Mae Hague PLT show). Runway mark + The island of love? Definitely a shock compound of the 2022 season so far.
But, of course, with his commitment to already-loved clothes through an eBay partnership, this is not typical The island of love. What stylist Amy Bannerman has done so cleverly is to adapt to the current fashion spirit of the time (super confident, ostentatiously sexy, seriously fun) and interpret it in The island of love–friendly language that does not compromise more conscious values.
‘Bodycon cropped dresses are fast becoming the look of the series as the girls embrace the main Y2K vibes,’ Amy says of their appeal. ‘As Poster Girl dresses are available in one size for everyone, everyone can delight in them. And a bright color palette will surely help you be in someone’s top three.
Amber’s was acquired on eBay, but if your grafting on a previously favorite platform has so far proved unsuccessful, you’re in luck. In addition to Poster Girl (where prices range around 140 pounds for a dress – some even less than that), there are many brands approved by fashion insiders who make cool-girl spins that are worth discarding their little things, such as Marcia, Stefania Vaidani , Nancy Doyak and Louis Ballow.
‘When I met some of the Islanders before the show, they were so excited about the opportunity to wear designer dresses, which became affordable by procuring them as favorites through eBay,’ says Amy, and teasing could be ahead. ‘While I think we’ll see a lot more Poster Girl in this series, I think we can also expect the girls to be dazzling in other favorite looks of the great designers in the coming weeks.’ Consider it necessary to watch your Hot Girl Summer – who needs panties at all?
