Demie’s hyper-curated approach to her personal image – from her Instagram account, which currently features just 25 editorial images, to her immaculate bold beauty inspired by Sophia Loren and María Félix – caught the attention of Balenciaga, who promptly enlisted her to join Kim Kardashian and Isabelle Huppert as a house ambassador. Not bad company to keep. Demna created three custom looks, including a neon green bodysuit, for Alexa to wear to the Euphoria season two promo gigs. Again, same dress disasters were avoided among her fashion-forward cast mates, because it takes a special sort of person (read: dedicated) to slither into the brand’s pantaboots.
For Alexa, who grew up in Hollywood, getting dressed up is in her DNA. She caught the beauty bug from her mother, who was a make-up artist, and moonlighted as a MAC model at the age of just 12. By her late teens, she was sleuthing her way around the city’s retro emporiums. And in 2017, when Aralda Vintage founder Brynn Jones set up shop, Demie was one of his first customers. It was she who introduced the Euphoria costume department to the store and helped mastermind the series two fashion montage scenes, featuring major Chanel, Tom Ford-era Gucci and classic Dolce & Gabbana. Alexa is not just someone who turns up to set and puts on clothes; she lives and breathes it.
Although Demie’s style might at times seem interchangeable with her Euphoria character’s Blumarine and Jacquemus millennium-bug aesthetic, Alexa’s style is more sophisticated and darker than that of her on-screen alter-ego. No wonder she moved on from Y2K. Demie was doing authentic ’00s style way before Depoppers jumped on the trend. At the season one premiere in 2019, she did daring whale-tail glamor in snake-print Anka, while the MTV Awards that year saw her stage her own J Lo jungle-print Versace dress moment in Angelina Colarusso. This rare bird has always been ahead of the curve, but happily, you get the feeling Alexa Demie is just getting started. Currently in the throes of a ‘Ciaga cyber goth phase, and with a beauty business reportedly in the pipeline, she is unquestionably one to watch.
